Tutoring
The Learning Commons has received several awards and certifications that have celebrated our leadership and teamwork. In addition, the Learning Commons hosts an award ceremony every year honoring the hard work of the full- and part-time staff.

NCLCA Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award
NCLCA Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award
Tallahassee State College’s William D. Law Learning Commons is the winner of a national award recognizing the ability to foster growth and development in education. The National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) awarded TSC with the Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center in the two-year college category in 2021.
Frank L. Christ was the founder of the Winter Institutes for Learning Assistance Professionals and was actively involved with learning assistance for over 40 years.
The NCLCA is an organization of professionals dedicated to promoting excellence among learning center personnel. The goal is to develop and maintain learning centers, programs, and services to enhance student learning at the post-secondary level.

AFC Technology Commission Exemplary Practice Award
The Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) Technology Commission recognizes community colleges for their cutting-edge technology that illustrates an exceptional practice. Departments within a community college can also apply, but only one application per college is accepted.

CRLA Certifications
CRLA Levels 1, 2, and 3
Since 1989, over 1,000 college tutor training programs around the globe have received ITTPC at one or more Levels. Our tutors are undergoing consistent training to be certified at levels 1, 2, and 3.
Receptionist Awards
Outstanding Receptionist of the Year
This award goes to the receptionist whose work performance has consistently exceeded expectations. This individual has gone above and beyond to positively contribute to the Learning Commons environment and has followed all policies and procedures with maturity. This receptionist has made everyone feel welcome and has served our students with excellence.

Rookie of the Year (Reception Staff)
This award goes to the receptionist who has made a splash (the fun kind) in their first 2 semesters working at the LC. This award is for a receptionist who has either come in this year and been excellent throughout their course of work or for those who have had the opportunity to improve. In the latter case, this individual has responded to constructive feedback from supervisors with professional and personal growth, which has contributed to continued improvements in the Learning Commons overall.

This award goes to the tutor whose work performance and service to student success have consistently exceeded expectations. This individual has logged over and beyond 25 hours per semester of working with students and can assist students with a variety of needs. This tutor has gone above and beyond to positively contribute to the Learning Commons environment and has followed all policies and procedures with maturity. This tutor is a team player who understands that collaboration enhances the overall environment of the Learning Commons.

Some examples might include the work completed with the Learning Commons committees or through the specialized populations.
