Learn more about TSC's Credit By Exam opportunities.

Military Experience

Credit for Military Experience applies to your current program and may shorten its length. It is the veteran’s responsibility to:

  1. Request academic transcripts from all prior postsecondary institutions, including service transcripts.
  2. Notify the TSC Veterans Affairs Office once Admissions and Records complete the evaluation.
  3. Avoid taking courses for which you may later receive transfer credit. The VA may delay benefits until TSC completes your prior credit evaluation. Courses cannot get certified if the Admissions and Records office accepts them as transfer credits.

View Complete Military Experience Equivalency List

Veterans with at least one year of active duty and an honorable discharge are eligible for seven (7) hours of military credit. To receive these credits, students must complete one semester at TSC, submit a copy of their DD214 Member 4 to the Office of Admissions and Records, and provide a written request for the seven hours of military credit to ar@tsc.fl.edu.

Work Experience

To apply, students submit a portfolio that documents their experience in detail. This portfolio may include a résumé, a narrative of your learning journey, and supporting materials such as certificates, training records, or project summaries.

Faculty experts will evaluate your submission to determine whether your experience aligns with specific course objectives.

Examples of qualifying experiences include:

  • Project management
  • Participation in employer-sponsored training programs
  • Review of duties
  • Tasks, responsibilities, and historical job performance

The process is individualized, ensuring that your unique background is considered thoughtfully and fairly.

For more information, contact Academic Affairs at (850) 201-8680 or acadaffairs@tsc.fl.edu

Industry Certifications and Credentials

Students may be awarded a specific number of credit/clock hours towards a degree, program, or a career technical certificate, or toward individual courses based on the professional certificate they have earned.

The number of credit or clock hours awarded depends on the credential’s alignment with course outcomes and is determined through established articulation agreements or faculty review.

To initiate the process, students submit documentation such as official certificates/credentials, training transcripts, or exam score reports. These materials are evaluated to ensure the credential meets academic standards and reflects college-level learning.

By leveraging their existing qualifications, students can accelerate their academic journey, reduce costs, and transition more efficiently into high-demand career pathways.

Qualifying Criminal Justice Coursework

Students who have passed the Florida Criminal Justice Law Enforcement state certification exam are eligible to receive 15 credits toward the Associate in Science in Criminal Justice Technology (CCJ1020, CJE1000, CJE2600, CJE2640, and CJL2130). Contact the Florida Public Safety Institute to initiate the exemption credit process.

Based on Florida Statute 1004.0981, state universities, Florida College System institutions, and career centers can award postsecondary credit or career education clock hours for law enforcement training and experience toward a degree-seeking program, if applicable to the student's degree or certificate. The awarding of credit is done on a case-by-case basis through the Office of Academic Affairs to ensure the credit applies not only to the degree at TSC but also will not hinder a student in transferring to the university and major of choice.

Statewide Articulation Agreements

The Statewide Career Pathways Agreements provide opportunities for students to accelerate their degree completion and save money through being awarded postsecondary credit for completion of a career certificate program. Statewide articulation agreements are guaranteed by Section 1007.23, Florida Statutes, and help to facilitate the seamless articulation of student credit across and among Florida’s educational entities

The articulation agreement allows Career Pathways students to earn college credit in an A.S. degree or certificate program at TSC. Articulation credit is free and is awarded when the student matriculates to TSC. Click here for a complete list of statewide articulation agreements.

Additionally, pursuant to Sections 1007.23 and 1008.44, Florida Statutes (F.S.), Rule 6A-10.0401, Florida Administrative Code, facilitates the statewide articulation of industry certifications through the use of Gold Standard agreements and provides guaranteed college credit for individuals who have earned an industry certification and are enrolled in an Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree program at a Florida College System institution.

TSC has Career Pathways agreements with the following:

  • Gadsden County High Schools
  • Gadsden Technical College
  • Leon County High Schools
  • Lively Technical College
  • Wakulla County High Schools
