Peer Leaders

Peer Leaders serve as peer advisors, role models, and representatives of Tallahassee State College. Through formal training and hands-on experience, Peer Leaders develop valuable skills like organization, public speaking, adaptability, and more. Peer Leaders assist in various roles around campus, plan and execute Student Life events, and participate in community service.

Mission

The mission of the TSC Peer Leader Program is to provide a student leadership experience characterized by the enhancement of leadership skills in order to help connect other students to campus resources, by promoting service opportunities to enhance civic engagement, and by infusing scholarships to support higher academic achievement.

Goals and Strategies

  1. Engage in leadership skill development by actively and purposefully committing to guiding and assisting any individual, group, organization, or community in meeting its goals.
  2. Strengthen overall student engagement by utilizing Peer Leaders to aid in increasing the awareness of campus resources, services, and programs.   
  3. Develop and participate in monthly service projects and collaborate with campus services and community organizations in and around Leon, Gadsden, and Wakulla counties.
  4. Promote civic-mindedness on the campus, locally, and beyond by providing opportunities to create and participate in appropriate settings.
  5. Successfully connects intellectual, academic, and practical skills utilizing critical and reflective thinking to draw summations with effective reasoning and creative thought.

Benefits

TSC Peer Leaders receive a scholarship for 60 credit hours or two years of tuition.

The program provides opportunities for students to:

  • Develop valuable skills in communication, leadership, and teamwork
  • Meet and network with a variety of people
  • Learn more about Tallahassee State College and share that with other students

Eligibility

Students apply to the program as incoming freshmen.

To be eligible to apply to the Peer Leader Program, students must:

  • Be an incoming freshman from a high school in Leon, Gadsden, or Wakulla counties
  • Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Obtain a letter of recommendation from a principal or guidance counselor

Program Requirements

If selected as a Peer Leader, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Work five hours per week in your assigned office on campus
  • Attend weekly team meeting
  • Attend one event that you are not working each month
  • Complete between two hours of community service each month at a location or project determined by you and your Peer Leader Captain and approved by the Student Life Coordinator
  • Plan and implement one (1) workshop each year with your team
  • Attend all trainings and seminars that don’t interfere with your class schedule
  • Be open to volunteering for all leadership opportunities that may arise for you, including any conferences or retreats that you may qualify and apply for
  • Complete reflections each month on events and services and a reflection each year on your workshop

Application Instructions

The application period opens annually in February and closes in May.

The deadline for applications for the 2025-26 academic year has passed.

  • NOTE: You will be required to submit an essay, Community Service Statement, and two letters of recommendation along with a copy of your high school transcript

Meet Your Peer Leaders

Alexis Ngo

Alexis is a Psychology major from Tallahassee, Florida. She is interested in understanding human behavior and mental processes, and outside of academics, she enjoys expressing her creativity through makeup. 

Ansleigh Chaires
Ansleigh is a Nursing major from Tallahassee, Florida. She plans to transfer to Florida State University to pursue CRNA school and is passionate about patient care both in and out of the classroom. Outside of academics, Ansleigh enjoys spending her free time fishing.

Aundrea Cross
Aundrea is a Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Management major from Tallahassee, Florida. She plans to transfer to Florida A&M University and has a strong passion for athletics. An interesting fact about Aundrea is that she is an All-American track and field athlete.

 

Dovia Kintchen
Dovia is a Psychology major from Tallahassee, Florida. She plans to transfer to Florida A&M University and has a strong interest in understanding human behavior. An interesting fact about Dovia is that she once played the Fairy Godmother in a production of Shrek the Musical.

Esther Ramirez-Pipitone
Esther is from Tallahassee, Florida, and is majoring in Art History. She plans to transfer in the future and is currently exploring her options. In her free time, Esther enjoys roller-skating.

Jayla Gordon
Jayla is a Media Communication Studies major from Tallahassee, Florida. She plans to transfer to Florida State University and has a strong interest in communication and media. Outside of academics, Jayla has trained in kickboxing, karate, and self-defense classes on two different occasions. 

Julianna Averett
Julianna is a Pre-Med major who was born and raised in Cartersville, Georgia, and moved to Tallahassee with her family about nine years ago. She plans to transfer to Florida State University and is passionate about pursuing a career in medicine. Outside of academics, Julianna enjoys attending concerts. 

Kaliah Proctor
Kaliah is a Nursing major from Gadsden County, Florida. She plans to transfer to Florida A&M University to continue her studies in healthcare. An interesting fact about Kaliah is that her favorite artist is Rod Wave. 

Maria Garcia
Maria is a Pharmacy major originally from the Philippines. She plans to transfer to Florida A&M University to continue pursuing her career in healthcare. Outside of academics, Maria proudly considers herself a devoted cat mom. 

Metrius Hadley
Metrius is a Pharmaceutical Science major from Thomasville, Georgia. He plans to transfer to FAMI and is focused on pursuing a future in the pharmaceutical field. Outside of academics, Metrius enjoys traveling to the mountains. 

Natalie Gordon
Natalie is a Communications major from Tallahassee, Florida. She plans to transfer to Florida State University and has a strong interest in media and storytelling. An interesting fact about Natalie is that she has appeared in a movie.
