Tallahassee State College (TSC) offers eligible employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to provide employees and their families with a broad range of employer and employee-paid benefit options. Eligibility for benefits is defined by your employment classification.

For us, your health is a top priority. We offer several health plans, dental plans, and vision insurance plans to choose from. All plans have the option to include your eligible dependents and we pay for a portion of the insurance coverage to help offset the cost. Supplemental insurances are also available to enroll in such as short-term disability, long-term disability, accident, hospital indemnity, critical illness, legal/identity theft coverage, and voluntary term life insurance.

TSC participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) which includes a defined benefit Pension plan and defined contribution Investment Plan. TSC also offers the option for eligible Administrators and Faculty to participate in the Community College Optional Retirement Plan (CCORP), (see HR if you are interested)

Eligible employees may elect pre-tax salary deductions to contribute on a voluntary basis to a variety of tax shelter accounts such as a 403(b), and/or a 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan. For a full list of eligible providers, please click here.

Health

Medical Insurance Benefit Summary

Below are the health summary guides.  These guides provide detailed information on co-pays, deductibles, and coverage.  Dependent coverage is additional at the employee’s expense.

 ** Transparency in Coverage 

Section 2715A of the PHS Act provides that group health plans and health insurance issuers offering group or individual health insurance coverage must comply with section 1311(e)(3) of PPACA, which addresses transparency in health coverage and imposes certain reporting and disclosure requirements for health plans that are seeking certification as qualified health plans (QHPs) that may be offered on an Exchange. A plan or coverage that is not offered through an Exchange (as defined by section 1311(b)(1) of PPACA) is required to submit the information required to the Secretary of HHS and the relevant state’s insurance commissioner and to make that information available to the public.

Dental

We are proud to offer you a choice between two different dental plans.  A high option plan and a low option plan.  Both plans offer you the freedom and flexibility to use the dentist of your choice. However, you will maximize your benefits and reduce your out-of-pocket costs if you choose a dentist who participates in the Ameritas Dental network.

Life Insurance

  • Basic Life Insurance: TSC provides Basic Life Insurance Coverage for all full-time employees in the amount of 2 X your annual salary.  Your Basic Life Insurance coverage includes Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage.
  • Voluntary Term Life Insurance: Full-Time Employees can apply for additional voluntary employee life insurance coverage in $25,000 increments to a maximum coverage of $500,000. Employees can also elect voluntary spouse life insurance and voluntary child life insurance. (Employees must elect Voluntary Employee Life to be eligible to elect Voluntary Spouse or Voluntary Child Life Insurance)

Medical FSA

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an employer-sponsored benefit that allows you to pay for eligible medical expenses on a pre-tax basis. If you expect to incur medical expenses that won't be reimbursed by an insurance company or another plan, FSAs are a great way to save money while covering those costs. You can contribute up to $3,200.00 annually to your FSA.

Dependent Care FSA

Dependent Care FSA (DCA) is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) that allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars for Dependent Care expenses, i.e. daycare, summer camp, after-school care, before school care for your dependent child that is under age 13 or elder daycare for your parents.  The IRS DCA annual contribution limits are $5,000 if you file your income taxes as single or married filing jointly; and $2,500 if you are married filing separately.

Faculty holidays are designated in the College's academic calendar. Contract/Grant employee holiday schedules are determined each year according to the specific requirements of the Contract/Grant.

Winter and Spring Breaks

During winter and spring breaks the college operates with limited staff. All non-exempt full-time employees who work during these times will earn Compensatory leave. The upcoming winter and spring breaks for the 2024-2025 academic calendar year are:

Winter Break:
Dec. 18, 2024 (College Closes at 1 p.m.) – Jan. 1, 2025 (Employees return to campus Jan. 2, 2025)

Spring Break:
March 10 - 14, 2025
