Tallahassee State College (TSC) earned top recognition at the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in Washington, D.C., where the team represented Switzerland and won the Distinguished Delegation Award, as well as two Outstanding Position Paper Awards.

The achievements place TSC among the highest-performing delegations at an international conference featuring colleges and universities from around the world.

TSC received Outstanding Position Paper Awards in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the General Assembly Third Committee (GA3). These awards recognize the delegates’ compelling research, analytical skills, and ability to craft and propose realistic and impactful solutions to global issues.

The TSC delegates that represented Switzerland across several committees were: Grace Leon (TSC’s MUN President) and McKenna Sanders in the Economic and Social Council committee, Justin Kendrick (TSC’s MUN Vice President) and Jonah Salazar in the General Assembly First Committee, Nicole Ordonez (TSC’s MUN Secretary) and Reese Whitehead in the General Assembly Third Committee, Hailee Spires and Avery Tatum in the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, Kevin Diez and Magrathea Burke in the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Emery Benson and Grantland Waggoner served in the United Nations Environment Assembly.

The team prepared for this conference for months by meeting weekly to review Model UN rules and procedures, hosting specialized writing workshops, and organizing a joint simulation conference with Valdosta State University.

“I couldn’t be prouder of my team,” said Edward Duggan, TSC MUN’s faculty advisor. “The team has worked hard all semester, preparing for the D.C. Conference, and all of that hard work paid off.”

While in Washington, the team also toured the U.S. Capitol, visited historic landmarks, and observed the American legislative process firsthand, which are experiences that enrich their understanding of diplomacy and governance.
