Tallahassee State College has received the 2025-26 Innovation of the Year Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College for App2Cap: Personalized Advising from Application to Graduation, an innovative student success initiative focused on keeping students engaged, supported, and on track from enrollment through completion.
Established more than 35 years ago, the League for Innovation’s Innovation of the Year Award honors programs, practices, partnerships, and initiatives that demonstrate exceptional creativity and impact in community college education.
The App2Cap initiative was led by Pam Johnston, Dean of Career and Academic Planning; Emily Micik, Director of Advising; and Tamares Cockfield, Manager of Career Services and Specialized Student Support.

“At Tallahassee State College, innovation is rooted in our commitment to student success,” said Dr. Jim Murdaugh, president of TSC. “The success of App2Cap reflects what is possible when faculty and staff work collaboratively to remove barriers and create clear pathways for students. We are proud of the impact this initiative is having across our institution.”
Built around six pillars — professional development, caseload advising, career connections, advising bundle, academic recovery, and graduation preparation — App2Cap combines proactive outreach, individualized advising, and career exploration to create a comprehensive student support model.
The initiative has produced measurable results across the College, including:
- 96% of students have customized academic plans
- Student satisfaction rates exceeding 90%
- Enrollment growth for 10 consecutive semesters
- A 7.2% increase in headcount in fall 2025
- Reduced excess credits and associated student cost savings
- A 20.9% increase in fall-to-fall graduates from fall 2024 to fall 2025
As part of the recognition, App2Cap and the TSC team will be featured on the League for Innovation website and recognized among community colleges nationwide for advancing student success through innovation.
