Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the appointment of Christian Caban and the reappointment of Monesia Brown to the Tallahassee State College (TSC) District Board of Trustees. Caban replaces outgoing Trustee Charlie Ward.
“We are grateful to Governor DeSantis for appointing these exceptional individuals to our Board,” said Dr. Jim Murdaugh, President of Tallahassee State College. “Both bring a deep commitment to education, strong ties to our community, and valuable experience that will greatly benefit our students and the institution. We are also deeply appreciative of Trustee Ward for his dedicated service and the meaningful contributions he made during his time on the Board.”
Christian Caban is a Leon County Commissioner and managing partner of a hospitality group that owns and operates several well-known establishments in Tallahassee. A lifelong Floridian and proud TSC alumnus, his career has focused on entrepreneurship, business development, and public service. He brings a strong commitment to education and community engagement, along with experience in strategic oversight, economic growth, and regional policy initiatives.
“I’m incredibly honored to be appointed to the TSC District Board of Trustees,” said Caban. “This college played a defining role in my life, and I’m proud to give back to the institution that helped shape my journey. I look forward to working alongside my fellow trustees to build on the College’s legacy and expand opportunities for students.”
Monesia “Mone” Brown, appointed in 2024, brings a powerful blend of public and private sector leadership to her role. With a career spanning legislative and executive branch affairs, she has driven impact in education, economic development, and state procurement. A passionate advocate for education, she has served as the Chair of the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend, a Trustee of the Maclay School Board, and a member of the Florida State Board of Education from 2021 to 2024. In the private sector, she has led high-level government relations efforts as Vice President at North Highland and as Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations at Walmart Inc.
“Thank you to Governor DeSantis for the opportunity to continue serving at TSC,” said Brown. “It’s an honor to support a college that has such a powerful impact on our region. I’m excited to keep working with President Murdaugh and my fellow trustees to help ensure student success.”
Trustees are appointed to four-year terms. Appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
