TSC Honored with National Innovation Award

May 14, 2025

Tallahassee State College (TSC) has been named a recipient of the 2024-2025 Innovation of the Year Award by the League for Innovation in the Community College, an international nonprofit organization that recognizes outstanding innovations designed to improve student and institutional outcomes across the community college sector.

TSC earned the award for its Professional Development for Institutional Excellence framework, a data-driven initiative that strengthens employee training and development by aligning professional learning with the College’s strategic goals. Developed by Nyla Davis, Director of Human Resources, and Heather Marie Mitchell, Manager of Learning and Development, the framework has fostered a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration among faculty and staff.

The framework includes four structured training tracks:

  • Leadership & Management Development
  • Workplace & Professional Skills
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Technology & Innovation

Using results from annual employee surveys, TSC tailors its offerings to meet the evolving needs of its workforce. Since its launch, the initiative has engaged 278 employees in structured development opportunities, generated over 939 hours of viewed LinkedIn Learning content, and achieved more than 800 course completions. The model has also strengthened cross-departmental collaboration and enhanced leadership readiness across campus.

The League for Innovation will formally celebrate award recipients during the 2026 Innovations Conference, March 15–18, in Indianapolis, Indiana. For more information, visit www.league.org.
