The Tallahassee State College Forensics Team started its season with a strong performance at the Sunshine State Swing Tournament. On Sept. 26-27, while competing against 23 colleges and universities, the team earned the Individual Events Team Sweepstakes Championship.
The accolades continue, as the team also placed 2nd overall in the Team Sweepstakes, which includes speaking and debate events.
TSC’s Forensics Team outperformed top academic programs such as Louisiana State University (2nd Place), University of Alabama (3rd Place), University of Central Florida (4th Place), and the University of Florida (5th Place).
Nine of the 13 members on the Forensics Team advanced to the final rounds, which led to the team's collective 20 individual awards. A few of TSC’s top individual honors included Jack Hopkins (3rd Place Overall Speaker), Grace Hartman (4th Place Overall Speaker), and Lillyana Humphreys (5th Place Overall Speaker).
“I’m extremely proud of our team, especially our new members. This win is particularly exciting and impressive since several four-year institutions were competing alongside us,” said Grace Hartman, a sophomore majoring in Media Communications. “I look forward to seeing our growth and success throughout the year.”
On Oct. 12, the team traveled to Tuscaloosa to compete in the fall invitational at the University of Alabama. They received an award for the Top Junior College, and Grace Hartman represented TSC in the final round of Dramatic Interpretation. Their season will continue later this month in Rome, Georgia, to compete at Berry College.
