FLORIDA BRIGHT FUTURES AT TSC
The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships to eligible Florida students. If you are eligible for Bright Futures and plan to attend Tallahassee State College, there are several steps you must complete before your scholarship can be applied to your account.
Florida Bright Futures Awards at TSC:
- Florida Academic Scholars (FAS): Covers 100% of tuition and applicable fees at TSC.
- Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS): Covers 100% of tuition and applicable fees for students enrolled in an associate degree program at TSC. For students enrolled in a TSC bachelor’s degree program, the award covers 75% of tuition and applicable fees.
- Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholars (GSC)
- Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV)
Award amounts and eligibility requirements are established by the State of Florida and are subject to change.
HOW TO USE BRIGHT FUTURES AT TSC
To have your Florida Bright Futures Scholarship applied at TSC, complete the following steps:
1. Select Tallahassee State College as Your Postsecondary Institution
Tallahassee State College must be listed as your postsecondary institution with the Florida Office of Student Financial Assistance. You can update your institution through the Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs website or by calling 888-827-2004.
2. Complete Your Admission Requirements
You must be fully admitted to TSC and have no outstanding admission requirements or holds. Make sure all required transcripts, test scores, and other admission documents have been submitted and processed.
Check your Workday account for outstanding admission requirements or holds.
3. Establish Florida Residency
TSC must verify that you meet Florida residency requirements for state financial aid.
4. Make Sure Your Social Security Number is on File
TSC must have your correct Social Security number on file, and it must match the Social Security number associated with your Florida Bright Futures record.
If you need to provide or update your Social Security number, follow the instructions available in Workday.
5. Enroll in at Least Six Eligible Credit Hours
You must be enrolled in at least six eligible credit hours per term to receive Bright Futures funding.
Courses must apply toward your TSC degree or eligible program of study.
Bright Futures will not pay for courses that do not apply toward your program requirements.
Bright Futures funding is limited to 45 credit hours during an academic year.
FUNDING, ENROLLMENT, AND APPEALS
Bright Futures funding is applied after TSC verifies your eligibility and enrollment. Review the information below to understand when your funding will appear, how enrollment changes may affect your award, and when an appeal may be available.
When Will My Bright Futures Appear in Workday?
Seeing that you are eligible for Bright Futures does not necessarily mean the funds have already been applied to your TSC account.
Before Bright Futures can be applied, TSC must verify that you:
- Have selected TSC as your postsecondary institution;
- Are fully admitted to TSC;
- Have established Florida residency;
- Have a matching Social Security number on file;
- Are enrolled in at least six eligible credit hours; and
- Meet all other Bright Futures eligibility requirements.
If one of these requirements is incomplete, your Bright Futures funding may be delayed.
Dropping or Withdrawing From a Bright Futures-Funded Course
Use caution before dropping or withdrawing from a course after the drop/add period.
If Bright Futures paid for a course and you later drop or withdraw from that course, you may be required to repay TSC for the Bright Futures funds paid for that course.
If you drop or withdraw because of a documented illness or emergency, you may be eligible to submit a Florida Bright Futures Appeal.
Florida Bright Futures Appeals
Students who drop or withdraw from a course because of a verifiable illness or emergency may submit a Florida Bright Futures Appeal Form for consideration.
The form is available in Workday. Go to the Student Finance Hub and click on TSC COLLEGE FORMS. Click SUBMIT A NEW FORM and then select FINANCIAL AID. Submitting an appeal does not guarantee approval.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why isn’t my Bright Futures showing in Workday?
Bright Futures cannot be applied until TSC has verified your eligibility and all required information. Check that TSC is listed as your postsecondary institution, that you are fully admitted, that your Florida residency has been established, that your Social Security number matches your Bright Futures record, and that you are enrolled in at least six eligible credit hours.
Will Bright Futures pay for any class I take?
No. Courses must apply toward your TSC degree or eligible program of study to qualify for Bright Futures funding.
What happens if I withdraw from a class after Bright Futures has paid for it?
You may be required to repay TSC for the Bright Futures funds paid for that course. Students who withdraw because of a documented illness or emergency may submit a Florida Bright Futures Appeal.
How do I change my school to TSC for Bright Futures?
Update your postsecondary institution through the Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs website or contact the Florida Office of Student Financial Assistance at 888-827-2004.
